Mauricio Gonzalez has been bringing abandoned vineyards back to life in the remote Bio Bio region of southern Chile.
Unfined, unfiltered and un-sulphered Moscatel, naturally vinified in clay amphora. Such a pure and vibrant expression, with early harvested grapes providing natural freshness alongside savoury, chalky texture.
Fruit from Mauricio's neighbour with vines around eighty years old. The cool climate Moscatel picked early lends itself to a fresh, less aromatic side as the skins don't harden against the sun. The grapes were fermented in Tinaja (amphorae) vessels, over 120 years old, for three weeks before topping and a further six months on skins. Extended lees (dead yeast particles) in the vessel builds a full wine. This is a beautiful textural, chalky and wonderfully zesty. A superb 'orange'/skin contact white! Thanks to Cultivar for the notes.
